Annual Auction
The Auction is the keystone to our annual fundraising success, consisting of many elements collected within our community. Generous donations are gathered from families and local businesses in the form of items, services and sponsorships. Funds are raised through a live, silent and online auction, a raffle, and event ticket sales. Volunteer parents are the driving force behind the event organization, business solicitation, and the ever-popular classroom art projects! Event planning begins early in the school year inviting engagement and kicking off a year of connecting with families and supporting our school.
Annual Fund
As a nonprofit organization we recognize another key element to keeping families, sponsors and alumni engaged. Our annual fund provides the extra resources to support lower tuition, as well as scholarship funds and growth opportunities.

Grants
KMS has continued to grow its programs thanks to many grantors including the USDA, Maine Agriculture in the Classroom, American Montessori Association’s Ursula Thrush Peace Seed Grant, the Oak Grove Foundation and Kids Gardening. These grants have helped us expand to support the demand for our elementary programs as well as our garden space and peace education curriculum. During this time of Covid, KMS has been fortunate to receive grants from ARPA and the State of Maine.
Square 1 Art
An annual fundraiser that allows students to customize personal items with their own creativity. A portion of the purchases from this fundraiser support our Art program. Check out Square 1 Art!
Oliver’s Labels
KMS will receive 20% of the purchase price if you buy from Oliver’s Labels. An easy way to support our school and label your kid’s gear with style!
Parent Participation
Our school is for parents too! We encourage families to be actively involved in the school, which is an important part of the school’s success. The services and expertise that parents provide allow teachers and staff to focus on children, and help offset some of the ever-rising costs associated with running a school. What parents get in return is invaluable – a way to be directly involved in their child’s school, as well as a chance to meet other KMS parents.
Each family is asked to contribute 20 hours of volunteer time as part of their enrollment commitment. Opportunities for volunteer activity include listening to emerging readers, helping with publicity, assisting with our annual auction, cleaning up the grounds each spring and fall, and many other essential tasks.
Many of our parents enrich the classrooms with special presentations on their own cultural and religious traditions, occupations and/or special interest.
For Small Hands
Montessori Services (a source used by Montessori educators for all sorts of classroom materials) has created a catalog filled with “toys for learning and tools for life” especially geared toward families. This For Small Hands catalog is sent home each fall in time for holiday ordering through KMS. Our school receives a merchandise credit voucher for 10% to 15% of the value of orders placed, which the teachers then share to purchase materials for their classrooms.
